In order to make the appropriate diagnosis and develop the optimal treatment plan a series of tests may need to be performed. The USC Spine Center offers a comprehensive series of tests as follows:

  • Imaging including: MRI scan, CAT scan and X-ray
  • EMG/Nerve conduction studies – Nerve conduction studies allow us to see if a nerve is activating appropriately. An electromyography (EMG) tests the interaction of the muscle-nerve junction and allows us to determine if the nerve irritation or pain is from the peripheral nerve or a pinched nerve in the spine.
  • Evoked potentials
  • Bone density testing
  • Bone scan test
  • Pathology
