Advanced, Appropriate Spinal Care: The USC Spine Center
We often begin with a conservative, non-surgical approach that integrates medication with physical and occupational therapy. When surgery is necessary, our specialists have developed new techniques and instrumentation that can improve outcomes. We offer the most advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures, with smaller incisions that allow for less tissue damage, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries. Our experts provide many traditional surgical options, such as lumbar fusion, artificial disc replacement and discectomy.
We will help you make an informed decision about the most appropriate treatment for your condition so you can return to your favorite activities without pain. Our spine researchers continue to participate in clinical trials to further expand our offerings.
We offer leading-edge expertise in acoustic neuroma, successfully treating thousands of patients. Our center has low readmission rates, and a shorter average length of stay, compared to other academic medical centers. With cutting-edge options such as the GammaKnife®, many patients are discharged the same day. We offer ongoing physical therapy and can coordinate post-treatment care with your local primary physician
Request a Second Opinion
A second opinion can often help you make a more informed decision about your care. The USC Spine Center is a renowned destination for second opinions. Our experts will review your initial diagnosis and treatment recommendation, and then perform a comprehensive review of your entire case. We will collaborate with your physician to ensure you get the most appropriate treatment for your condition.
Cutting-Edge Treatment Options
At the USC Spine Center, we offer a full range of advanced treatments, from non-surgical and minimally invasive procedures to traditional surgeries. Our surgeons will help you make an informed decision about the most appropriate treatment option.
Minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures
Advanced minimally invasive procedures can treat many degenerative and complex disorders. The small incisions help minimize side effects and blood loss, while shortening the length of both the hospital stay and recovery. We offer microdiscectomy, microlaminectomy, spinal decompression and posterior spinal fusion.
Our endoscopic procedures such as discectomy, sympathectomy, laminectomy and spinal fusion are performed with an endoscope. This requires smaller incisions, limiting damage to surrounding tissues while offering a faster recovery.
Traditional surgical options
When a minimally invasive or endoscopic procedure will not sufficiently address a patient’s condition, we typically recommend more traditional surgical treatment options. We offer several types of surgical fusion, disc replacement, fomraminotomy, laminaplasty and other procedures.
We work closely with physical and occupational therapists to help patients relieve pain and overcome a variety of spinal conditions. By combining medications and spinal injections with physical therapy, the need for surgery may be delayed, or even eliminated.
